How to Choose a TV Wall Bracket

A TV bracket must suit both the television and the wall. Screen-size labels are only a guide; the VESA mounting pattern and weight rating are the decisive compatibility checks.

Find the VESA pattern

VESA describes the horizontal and vertical spacing between the mounting holes on the back of the TV, measured in millimetres. Check the television manual or manufacturer specification for the exact model.

Check the weight limit

The television weight must be within the bracket's stated limit. Use the weight without the stand unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise, and never rely on screen size alone.

Choose the movement you need

• Fixed: a simple low-profile position.
• Tilting: useful when the screen sits above eye level.
• Full motion: allows extension and sideways adjustment but places different loads on the wall.

Assess the wall

Masonry, timber studs and other wall systems require appropriate fixings and safe load assessment. Do not assume the fixings supplied with a bracket suit every wall.
